According to a survey carried out by a specialized organization, the differences in the costs of a stay in a retirement home would be substantial depending on the regions and cities.
According to a recent survey conducted by the organization Retirement Plus, there are many disparities in the cost of a stay in EHPAD (Hospital for Dependent Aged Persons) between medium-sized cities and regional capitals. In addition, the disparities between regions are also very real on French territory. Worse still, for equal services, the differences within the same region can be substantial from one department to another. A problem for some residents whose pensions do not always equal the cost to pay. A few months ago, the Court of Auditors already pointed out these inequalities.
Ile-de-France remains the most expensive region
Without surprises, it is in Ile-de-France that retirement homes are the most expensive. With monthly payments of up to € 6,000, the Paris region is far ahead of other regions with an average of € 4,430 per month. The other large cities in France are, on average, a third cheaper than the capital: € 2,893 for Bordeaux, € 2,974 for Strasbourg, € 3,055 for Lille and finally € 3,048 for Lyon. According to Retraite plus, in Brittany and Alsace, the majority of these establishments are public or associative. These two regions are among the cheapest in France with respective monthly payments of € 2,781 and € 2,539.
If the average length of a stay in EHPAD is three years, families are increasingly relocating placements in retirement homes. Indeed, it is sometimes possible to find establishments in neighboring municipalities that offer less excessive prices (moving from the inner ring to the outer ring, for example).
EHPADs called into question
This is not the first time that studies have been carried out on retirement homes. The quality of life of patients is in particular monitored by several organizations which regularly publish detailed reports. Thus, a survey carried out in seven European countries was able to demonstrate that the air present in most nursing homes would not be suitable for the fragile respiratory systems of the elderly. In addition, many directors of establishments complain of a lack of resources, they urgently demand the creation of new posts and financial assistance.
