The Renault 5 Turbo has already become a legend. Collectors are fond of it, and it keeps raising the stakes. The copy offered for sale by Artcurial as part of its Automobiles sur les Champs 2021 sale, which will be held this Sunday, October 24, should not deny us. Indeed, it is about a rare version Renault 5 Turbo 2 series 8221 prepared “Cévennes”. Enough to whet the appetite of connoisseurs and that of speculators. It is estimated between 55,000 and 75,000 €.

The anteroom of the R5 Maxi Turbo
Dating from 1985, this car comes from the series of 200 customer copies bearing the Mines 8221 type. A special homologation characterizing models optimized for racing. First of all, the displacement goes from 1,397 to 1,432 cm3. Then, the structure of the car is lightened by means of a roof and aluminum body parts. It is approved to participate in historic events in Group 4 configuration.

Strictly original, the mechanics with a power of 185 hp which is in perfect condition displays just under 38,000 km. However, some modifications have been made over time, but always with respect for the authentic. This is evidenced by the reinforcement at the level of the shock absorber chapels and the front and rear side member gussets, but also the enlargement of the wheel arches to accommodate 15-inch Minilite rims for better grip. On board, a Renault Sport Groupe 4 roll bar is bolted to the body, and a pair of Renault 5 Turbo 1 bucket seats were fitted.
The seller indicates that all original parts including the famous TRX rims will be delivered with the vehicle. The future purchaser will thus be able, as he pleases, to restore the Renault 5 to its initial state or, if the mood takes it, to participate in regularity events such as the historic Tour de Corse.
