With good news
More than four years ago, the internet exploded when TopGear released the red Citroën BX Sport bag for sale at a dealer in Hoogeveen. You know, the one from ‘neighbor, what are you doing now?’. The bargain was widely picked up and with all the media attention, the owner decided to auction the car in the hope of getting a good amount for it. Unfortunately, the bids were disappointing and the car stayed with the dealer – but not for long. After the auction, a buyer presented himself with the right amount (or the right Polaroid) and the BX Sport changed hands, after which it disappeared from the radar.
The red Citroën BX Sport off bag pops up again
The new owner brought the bag-car to Citroën specialist Lijzenga in Damwoude in Friesland for a restoration. There the car almost completely disassembled to fix up the sheet metal, overhaul the engine and then completely repaint the whole thing. The 1986 Citroën is like new again and the 1.9-liter four-cylinder should again produce its original 127 hp. Unfortunately, the car does not have the ‘buffalo leather upholstery’ that neighbor Neuteboom advised.
It’s not the first time the car has been turned off bag had to go to the bodyshop. A photo is circulating on the internet of the Citroën BX with significant damage to the nose. Although the car was undoubtedly (financially) a total loss after the accident, the owner decided at the time to restore the car. Fortunately, because otherwise a piece of Dutch film history would have been lost.
According to Hans Lijzenga, the damage above was well repaired. The Citroën turned out to be unlucky, as there were traces of multiple repairs, some of which were dramatically carried out. The doors also had to be replaced because of rust. Now the car is well restored and also aligned again. The car will be in the showroom of the car company until next week, after which it will be picked up by the customer. Unfortunately it is not for sale.
Not the only Citroën BX Sport
For the shooting of the film bag another Citroën BX was used. This one did not have the four round headlights, but two normal ones. That did not matter for the film, because the images only show the interior of this car. Needless to say, the bird droppings on the windshield of these statues are made up of Prodent toothpaste and oil paint. This car has been registered in the name of the second owner since 2003 and still has a valid MOT.
