A formidable bacterium for pregnant women
Consuming products contaminated with this bacteria can cause a disease called listeriosis. In infected people, symptoms vary from diarrhea or a mild flu-like illness to more serious infections. In pregnant women, listeriosis can cause miscarriage or the birth of a stillborn baby. In the most fragile people suffering from an immune deficiency, listeriosis can cause sepsis or meningitis. The disease can also be fatal in 20% of cases.
