Hamilton will start at the front of the sprint race tomorrow
Q1 and Q2
The Mercedes are doing well in the first session of qualifying. There are no big surprises for the drivers who will be eliminated in Q1. However, it is the first time that George Russell has been beaten in qualifying by a teammate at Williams.
Normally the drivers have to choose on which tires they set their fastest time in Q2, because then they can also start the race on those tires. That is not necessary in this case because there is a sprint race tomorrow. So everyone can go outside on the soft tires. Hamilton is a lot faster than Verstappen in this session. It seems to be mainly the new engine that provides the extra speed for Lewis.
Q3
As the final twelve minutes begin, the last remaining drivers battle for their spot in the top 10 of the sprint race. Hamilton is fastest on the first fast laps with a lead of more than two tenths over Verstappen. Bottas is then on P3 and Pérez on P4.
On the second attempts only Hamilton manages to go faster. He will therefore secure himself from the front starting position during the sprint race tomorrow. Verstappen will challenge him in the first corner tomorrow, as he starts second. Bottas and Pérez start from the second row.
