This family of drugs occupy the first place of the podium of the types of treatment consulted by the French, with more than a quarter of searches alone.
An online pharmacy, Newpharma, analyzed research carried out on the Internet by the French, relating to the 12,000 drugs and remedies listed by the National Agency for the Safety of Medicines (ANSM).
Results: it is psychotropic drugs (anxiolytics, antidepressants, sleeping pills) which are at the top of the most popular drug families on the net in France, with more than a quarter of the searches alone. They are followed by remedies for digestive disorders. If these data do not necessarily mean that Internet users buy and use these products, they indicate the “significant level of anxiety in France”, underlines Mike Vandenhooft, CEO of Newpharma.
Indeed, the French seem to suffer mainly from the head and the digestive system. Stress, sleep, depression, heartburn, diarrhea concentrate most of the research.
Amoxicillin, Tramadol and Levothyrox
In the ranking of the most searched individual drugs on the web, Amoxicillin, an antibiotic used to fight bacterial infections, comes first (84,480 searches per month). Tramadol (84,020), an analgesic, comes second, followed by Levothyrox (67,460), which recently found itself in the spotlight due to changes in its composition.
The new formulation of this drug was put on the market at the end of March, and since then some patients have complained of side effects – headaches, dizziness, cramps or even hair loss. The change in formula had been requested by the ANSM in order to improve the stability of the drug over time.
