A New Therapeutic Voice to Avoid Incontinence in Patients After Prostate Surgery
the Prostate cancer is usually treated with surgery and / or radiation therapy, with frequent and severe side effects, including urinary incontinence and erectile dysfunction.
Researchers at the University of California at Los Angeles (United States) carried out a phase I clinical trial with 8 patients with prostate cancer. The participants were treated with laser ablation. The technique makes it possible to target only the tumor, instead of removing the organ.
6 months after the operation, the scientists found no adverse effects in their patients.
Then, the researchers conducted a second clinical trial with 11 volunteers. All participants tolerated the operation under local anesthesia and 4 months after the operation, they did not report any urinary disorders nor erectile.
“A new and exciting concept for the treatment of Prostate cancer, which must nevertheless still prove itself through larger studies, before obtaining an authorization from the American Agency ”, conclude the authors of the study.
