In a series of programs devoted to the “Day After”, Dr. Jean-François Lemoine receives the main players in the health system. At a time when the government is launching the “Ségur” for health, which is supposed to provide remedies for the weaknesses of this system brought to light by the coronavirus crisis, the opportunity for Professor André Grimaldi to once again expose his convictions … and its criticisms.
An enlightened critic of the functioning of our health system, Professor André Grimaldi does not lose hope. “The great leaps forward of our system have always taken place in crises…”. This is the way he has to say that, despite all the reservations he expresses about the outcome of the health “Ségur” launched by the government, he still hopes for great progress. And above all that it allows “a real debate, not a conference of consensus”.
And André Grimaldi to recall his priorities: an increase in hospital salaries, especially for nursing staff, the end of T2A (fee-for-service funding in hospitals, editor’s note) “except for what it is made for , standardized and programmed things”, hiring, a moratorium on restructuring projects and a “smart, that is to say programmed and financed” plan to help teamwork in city medicine. In summary, for him, in order to save our health system, “a program and people convinced to carry it” are needed.
“The management of the mask affair: a disaster!”
This is the message launched in the uncompromising interview conducted by Dr Jean-François Lemoine, by the eminent professor of diabetology in the aftermath of a crisis which has brought to light the weaknesses of our country, whether of the hospital or the organization of care between hospitals and city medicine. Not to mention the government’s communication “hiccups” which it severely pinpoints: “The management of the mask affair marked a turning point, in a crisis situation, we must tell the truth, people said to themselves ‘if they lie about it, what are they telling the truth about?’this has led to a real loss of confidence!”, asserts Professor Grimaldi who pronounces on this subject the word “catastrophe”.
Severe remarks which, in the middle of the “Ségur” of health, sound like a warning to the political leaders whom he would also like to see change the state of mind in which they have often carried out their projects: “We maintain the fiction of saviors then that we are in a much more adult society that needs collectives that operate in transparency…”
