According to a study carried out by Public Health France, the first signs of precocious puberty could be explained by the presence of endocrine disruptors in our daily lives. Explanations.
The responsibility of the endocrine disruptors involved
Just over 1,150 girls and 110 boys show signs of puberty before the age of eight for girls and nine for boys. This is in any case what reveals a study of Public Health France which was interested in these precocious puberty. Breasts that grow too early, hairs that appear on children’s legs … these signs are all the more worrying as they could be linked to endocrine disruptors.
These chemicals used by industry are present everywhere: in paints, in toys, in soaps and other shampoos. Children are in constant contact with these toxic substances and this would not be without consequences. Already suspected of causing genital malformations, cancer or heart disease, endocrine disruptors also cause hormonal disturbances.
A serious and plausible hypothesis
The role of exposure to endocrine disruptors in the onset of precocious puberty is therefore taken very seriously by researchers. Joëlle Moal, epidemiologist at the health agency Public Health France, who led this work with specialists from the Robert Debré hospital in Paris, even considers this hypothesis as scientifically ” plausible “.
” We make hypotheses and among these hypotheses, this may be compatible with exposure to endocrine disruptors “, Says the researcher. ” We think of pesticides and industrial emissions “. New work will therefore have to be carried out to determine the exact role of these substances in the hormonal development of children, but the suspicion remains important.
