Ludivine Chambet, a former nurse’s aide, faces 30 years in prison. She is accused of poisoning 13 residents of a nursing home.
Ludivine Chambet leaves behind her a deadly trail. The nursing assistant is accused of having poisoned 13 residents of the establishment for the elderly (EHPAD) where she was employed. On trial at the Chambéry courthouse (Savoie), the woman faces 30 years of imprisonment. The Advocate General called for the maximum penalty against him, underlines The Dauphiné Libéré.
The facts date back to 2012 and 2013. Ludivine Chambet was then stationed at the EHPAD Le Césalet-Dessous, attached to the CH de Chambéry. In the space of a year, 13 elderly residents of the facility become unwell. 10 die of it.
Suspicions quickly turn to the caregiver, now 34 years old. All these elderly people have one thing in common: they received psychotropic drugs when none were prescribed for them. Only nurses and orderlies can access the cupboard that holds them. And only Ludivine Chambet was present during all the poisonings.
A heavy past
When questioned by the police, the nurse admits having administered the products to seniors. But not to kill them. To “relieve them”. During the trial, the defense dwelled at length on the woman’s medical history to explain her gesture.
Ludivine Chambet suffers from Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome. Of genetic origin, it is characterized by excessive growth, predisposition to tumors and congenital malformations. Numerous surgical procedures are required.
Very surrounded by her mother, the Savoyard would have acted, according to Le Figaro, “in a daze linked to her own suffering”. Suffering motivated by the death of his mother, who succumbed to leukemia.
It is this context which earned him a requisition less burdensome than life imprisonment. The court recognizes an alteration of mental faculties at the time of the facts. However, this does not earn him the leniency of the Advocate General. He described Ludivine as “dangerous” and the author of “monstrous and enormous” acts.
