New for medically assisted procreation (PMA). Laurence Rossignol Minister of Families, Children and Women’s Rights has indeed announced on the channel Public Senateon 04 July 2016 that the government planned to remove a repressive circular that imposes prison sentences and fines on doctors when they advise their homosexual patients to perform MAP abroad. President Hollande promised the deletion of this circular during a meeting with LGBT associations (Lesbians, gays, bi and trans).
Open assisted reproduction to couples of homosexual women
At present, in France, surrogacy (GPA) is prohibited for homosexual and heterosexual couples. The PMA is open to heterosexual couples but prohibited to same-sex couples and single women. The minister goes even further than the suppression of the repressive circular against doctors: “we are in favor of the PMA being open to couples of same-sex women who can marry and build a family“she said.”There is no reason to discriminate against lesbian couples by denying them access to technology open to heterosexuals, and I hope that this ban on couples of young women who want a baby be lifted so that they can access the same techniques as heterosexuals“, according to Laurence Rossignol.
Doctors call for infertility plan
As assisted reproduction is authorized for female couples in several European countries such as Belgium or Spain, some doctors advise their lesbian patients to cross borders to use this technique. Last March, 130 doctors published an article in which they admitted having helped homosexual couples to have children and demanded a plan againstinfertility including access to assisted reproduction for all couples.
