Before authorizing assisted reproduction for all women, Emmanuel Macron wants a debate. This will take place in 2018, as part of the States General on Bioethics.
Will PMA be open to all women? To this question, the president chose not to answer. Instead of deciding one way or the other, Emmanuel Macron opens the debate. “On these issues of society, the politician should not impose a choice”, he declared during his televised interview on October 15.
In an opinion delivered last July, the National Consultative Ethics Committee (CCNE) pleaded in favor of opening up medically assisted procreation. On paper, the head of state is in the same direction as the organization. “I recognize this right for single women and female couples,” confirmed Emmanuel Macron.
But on the form, the president prefers to let everyone express their opinion. The subject “clashes with philosophical and religious convictions”, according to him. Within the framework of the States General on Bioethics, a debate will therefore take place. He wishes it “appeased”. A pious wish which it is not certain that it will be fulfilled.
No surrogacy
“We fear a typical Manif pour Tous scenario”, recently admitted to Why Doctor Jean-Marie Bonnemayre, President of the National Council of Secular Family Associations. The Catholic community, essentially, was mobilized from the beginning to shout all its interventions, whistling, shouting … The CNAFAL, as well as other associations, have also published a forum asking for a vote before the revision of the bioethics law.
There remains one file on which the President of the Republic is immutable: that of surrogacy (Surrogacy). While recalling his attachment to respect “for the dignity of the body of women”, Emmanuel Macron strongly opposed such a measure. And he responds to concerns just as firmly. “I hope that we cannot pass from assisted reproduction to surreptitious surreptitiousness,” hammered the head of state.
