A prototype of Peugeot 306 convertible leaves the reserves of the manufacturer to the lion to be put on sale this September 19 by the house of Aguttes. It is distinguished by its two-tone red and gray livery which earned it the nickname Lipstick, and has only traveled 40 km. It could sell for around € 20,000.
The Peugeot 306 convertible was unveiled in September 1993 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, then marketed in the spring of 1994. More than 77,000 units were produced until it was withdrawn from the catalog in 2002. Customers could opt for a navy blue, red soft top. burgundy or dark green instead of standard black to create a contrast with the body color. But for a while Peugeot even considered offering the model in a two-tone configuration. the two colors of which would be delimited at mid-height of the body. A 1993 prototype made in this way is about to be auctioned.
In red and gray
The 306 convertible in question is nicknamed Lipstick, or “lipstick” in English. The lower part of the body is light gray while the top is red. The interior is in tune with seats whose contours are covered with a red fabric Alcantara type and the central parts are gray with red and gray patterns. The rim of the steering wheel and the entire dashboard are covered with the same red fabric as the seats.
Power collector
It is within the framework of the annual official sale of the Peugeot Citroën DS Adventure, organized by Aguttes on September 19 at the Citroën Conservatory of Aulnay-sous-Bois (93), that this prototype of the Color and Material department of Peugeot will be offered. With only 40 km on the odometer, the vehicle is declared rolling but does not have a gray card; it has never been registered and unfortunately cannot be, told us a member of l’Aventure Peugeot.
The 306 convertible is the last convertible hood of the lion brand, and the last Peugeot convertible whose design Pininfarina signed. With its finish and its nature of prototype, the Lipstick model could therefore be of interest to collectors and surpass official price estimates that place its value between € 8,000 and € 18,000. At the 2020 Adventure sale, a prototype 306 yellow convertible with a black top with a matching interior estimated between € 3,000 and € 6,000 was sold for € 25,500.
