In Sainte-Pazanne and the surrounding towns, the collective “Stop our children’s cancers” is worried about the many cases of pediatric cancers: 22 have been identified so far. Seized in 2019, Public Health France and the Regional Health Agency published, Wednesday, September 23, a press release announcing the absence of outbreaks and common cause for these cancers. Marie Thibaud, founder of the collective, recalls her determination to find explanations.
Twenty-two cases of pediatric cancers concentrated in only a few municipalities, without finding any explanation. This is the situation experienced by parents in Sainte-Pazanne and the surrounding towns, in Loire-Atlantique. In their report of September 23, the Regional Health Agency of Pays de la Loire and Public Health France indicate that there was no “singular situation in terms of cancer in the sector concerned.” An explanation that does not satisfy Marie Thibaud, the founder of the collective “Stop aux cancers de nos enfants”.
How did you react to announcements from Public Health France of September 23, 2020, claiming that there was no outbreak of pediatric cancers in Loire-Atlantique?
It revolted me. We were in the monitoring committee the day before with the parents’ collective, the ARS and Public Health France. They did not inform us that they refuted the notion of cluster. I completely hallucinated when I discovered the information. Not six months have passed since 2015 without a child declaring cancer!
Public Health France says it wants to put in place a watch and specific measures in certain areas, such as at the Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes school in Sainte-Pazanne, where pollutants have been detected in the air. Do these measures seem sufficient to you?
For monitoring, there is none. Since November 2019, when Public Health France declared that it will not carry out epidemiological studies, we must notify this organization and the ARS of new cases, otherwise they do not have the information because they do not do census. For specific measures like at the Sainte-Pazanne school, that is not enough. Classes have been moved to prefabs, but children are still in school, playing in the yard while studies have shown that there are also high levels of electromagnetic fields. It is a risk factor, it can weaken children, it is an endocrine disruptor!
A few weeks ago, your collective launched an appeal to Emmanuel Macron through the press. Did you get any feedback?
No, we haven’t had any response yet. A letter was also delivered by MP Sandrine Josso to remind us of our request.
What steps do you want to take now?
We want to launch new actions. The idea is not to make people cry in the cottages, but to remember that these cases of pediatric cancers exist, that these children exist.
You have carried out several researches since November 2019, on air, hair, water etc What are the results ?
All of this takes time, and we’ve had few results so far, but they show anomalies. We are now awaiting the results of a water analysis, which should normally be delivered next month, but we are also going to have the water tables analyzed. We would also like to have the vegetables analyzed because we know that the soils are very polluted.
We are still at the very beginning, we are waiting for a financial agreement for a genomic analysis, that is to say a research carried out on the genome of cancer cells in children. The ARS had told us that it did not exist but we found specialized researchers. Once we have obtained all the agreements, it will take at least a year and a half to have results.
What are the suspected causes today?
We believe that there is no single cause, but several factors. For example, we realized that a wind farm was installed in the area between 2014 and 2015. However, Public Health France does not record any cases before 2015 in its register. I am not saying that cancers are caused by wind turbines and their magnetic fields, but it is possible that there is a risk factor in our children’s bodies, which are awakened in some way by the electromagnetic fields of wind turbines. It is for this reason that we need an observatory of total pollution, we need a complete analysis of the air, the soil, etc
Are you considering legal action?
No, at the moment our priority is to protect the children. We are not here to turn heads, but to ensure that children are no longer affected by cancer.
