Consume peanuts to avoid declaring a peanut allergy? This is the recommendation issued by a high American medical authority, which has just published a study on the subject.
Israelis much less prone to peanut allergy
Contrary to popular belief, to prevent them from food allergies, babies should be made to consume certain foods very early on. In any case, this is what the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) suggests which, in a recent publication, recommends that parents feed children with peanut-containing foods from the age of four months.
The introduction of this food, so far not recommended, would in fact limit the appearance of a lasting allergy to peanuts.. To reach this conclusion, researchers from this American health authority conducted a study on 640 children living in Israel and consuming peanut products from an early age. They compared their medical data to children, also originally Israeli but living in the UK. Analysis of this information revealed that young Israelis suffer very little from peanut allergies, unlike adopted little Britons.
Explosion in the number of allergics for more than ten years
Peanut allergy is more and more frequent, in the United States as in France, and the authorities are concerned about this progression. About 2% of American children would be affected by this food intolerance very disabling in daily life, four times more than in 1999.
These new recommendations, if followed by parents, could “ save lives ” and ” reduce healthcare costs », Says Dr Anthony Fauci, director of NIAID. According to the latter, ” extensive application of these recommendations by doctors will prevent the development of peanut allergy in a large number of children that are prone to it and will ultimately reduce the frequency of cases in the United States “.
