There is yet another online scam, this time in the name of the popular parking app Parkmobile. You will be warned that you are in arrears and a request to pay. Just a lie, and if you follow it they will drain your bank account. This is how you recognize the scammers.
It is an email from Parkmobile with the subject ‘Payment reminder’. In January, a debt of €21.76 was incurred for the period 01/2022. Whether you want to pay!
It also mentions an eight-digit customer number and a seven-digit invoice number. Both fake, but different in every email. The sender often addresses the e-mail with your real last name – probably many unfortunate reporters have been victims of identity theft or at least stealing name and address details before.
Account number is incorrect
Closer inspection reveals that this is not true at all. The mentioned bank number NL18ABNA0570638917 belongs to ‘Stichting Parkinggelden Nederland’ in Diemen. Nice idea, but this is not a Parkmobile number.
You will also find a payment button in the e-mail to pay the debt in one go. The button goes to a fake website.
Don’t click
If you click on the button, you will see a link to a so-called ‘open invoice’. However, both the amount and the invoice number do not match those in the email. If you continue, you will see a list of references to fake websites with logins from 11 different banks. There is also a link to a counterfeit International Card Services page – so the scammers are also out to rob people with credit cards.
Parkmobile advises you to check if there are any outstanding invoices via the app. Open the app, go to Account > Invoices and check if you still have to make a payment.
Never just click on links from such fake emails, even if it looks credible and convincing. And always report these kinds of emails to Fraudehelpdesk.nl
