The Saint-Antoine hospital (Paris) has launched a surprising appeal for stool donations against a remuneration of 50 euros per donation. The service’s telephone line has been saturated since the information made the rounds in the media. What will your excrement be used for?
The Saint-Antoine hospital in Paris (12th arrondissement) has launched a call for donations fecal matter against “financial compensation”. If you are between 18 and 49 years old, affiliated to a French social security system and in good health, you can participate in a clinical study promoted by the Assistance Publique – Hôpitaux de Paris by donating your stools for 50 euros.
“We are looking for healthy volunteers to make one (or more) stool donation(s) as part of the REBALANCE-UC study, which focuses on the evaluation of stool transplantation in inflammatory bowel disease, hemorrhagic rectocolitis”, specifies the call for donations. In short, “theThe objective of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of faecal microbiota transplantation on disease progression”.
What is ulcerative colitis?
Ulcerative colitis (or UC) is an inflammatory disease of the rectum and large intestine. Of auto-immune origin, it is chronic and is mainly manifested by pain and diarrhea with emission of blood from the anus. There are also digestive disorders, joint pain, inflammatory signs of the skin, in the eyes and bile ducts in the liver.
In about 20% of those affected, the seizures can be severe. Their intensity may even require hospitalization for monitoring, stopping oral feeding and infusion treatment for a few days. The disease can occur at any age, but it usually occurs in young adult men and women between the ages of 15 and 35.
A noteworthy call for donations
