Liposuction, breast augmentation, botulinum toxin injection… Cosmetic surgery is booming, especially in emerging countries like Brazil. In a few years, the number of operations has almost doubled. In 2014, more than 20 million cosmetic and non-surgical operations were performed worldwide, compared to 23 million the previous year, according to thehe latest statistics from the International Society for Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) published this Wednesday.
Gathering data from more than 1,000 surgeons around the world, the learned society was able to establish the top 8 countries with the most use of this type of surgery. In first place, we find the United States, with more than 4 million cosmetic operations or not. Then, Brazil (more than 2 million interventions) and Japan (around 1.2 million). France is far behind with 400,000 operations in 2014, 10 times less than the leader in this area.

4 million Botox injections
Among the non-surgical procedures the most performed in the world, the injection of botulinum toxin (Botox) remains the most popular, both in men and in women, with 4 million bites in 2014. On the side of France , hyaluronic acid is more popular.
As for surgical procedures, breast augmentation is the most performed in women, followed by liposuction, while in men, plastic eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is the most common.
According to data collected by ISAPS, women are the greatest followers of cosmetic surgery. They are the source of 17 million interventions.
