This Friday, September 20, during the lunch break, the association Imagyn organize a one-hour walk. The gathering will take place at 1 p.m. in front of the Georges Pompidou European Hospital, in the 15th district of Paris. Objective: raise awareness of the fight against gynecological cancers. The association is taking advantage of September Turquoise, ovarian cancer awareness month, to carry out this action.
She thus recalls that 5,193 cases of ovarian cancer were recorded in France in 2018, and that it is extremely aggressive: by causing 3,479 deaths last year, it is the leading cause of death from gynecological cancers. from the country. While it is the eighth most common cancer in women, ovarian cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer death in women. Faced with these not very encouraging data, Imagyn recalls that the chances of survival rise to 80% if the cancer is detected early.
Among the risk factors, post-traumatic stress disorder
Some of the best-known risk factors for ovarian cancer include having a family history of ovarian cancer, BRCA gene mutations, Lynch syndrome, not having had a pregnancy childbirth, to have a personal history of breast cancer, to be a smoker, or to have endometriosis.
