Organ transplants are today the subject of a serious problem: waiting times are far too long in relation to the needs of patients. In an attempt to shorten this period and improve the quality of donations, the European Parliament has just announced a series of measures to facilitate donation in member countries.
Among these measures, Parliament would like to give every citizen the possibility of registering on a register bringing together all donors. In addition, a distinctive sign on the identity card could make it possible to quickly know whether or not the person wishes to donate their organs. However, the identity of organ donors and recipients should always be protected, in accordance with national rules.
