The wheelbase of the Astra increases for the station wagon version
Sure, the Insignia is still there, but this is the Opel station wagon you want at the moment. Just because it’s brand new. You are looking at the new Opel Astra Sports Tourer. Like the Astra hatchback, it shares technology with Citroën and Peugeot, because they all operate under the Stellantis flag.

The Opel Astra station wagon is 4,642 meters long and 1,860 meters wide. The height is just under 1.5 meters. The increased wheelbase is striking. Compared to the existing Astra hatchback, the wheelbase grew by 57 millimeters. All this makes for a luggage space of 608 liters. Nobody in the back? Then fold the bench flat for a flat loading floor and 1,634 liters of luggage space. In the hybrid versions this is 548 and 1,574 liters because of the battery.
The non-hybrids can be ordered with something Opel calls Intelli-Space. This is an adjustable loading floor that can easily be raised or lowered with one hand. Or at a 45 degree angle. Another handy feature of this system is that the first aid and tire repair kit can also be taken when the luggage compartment is full of suitcases and other items. This way you don’t have to put the entire holiday furniture along the road on the hard shoulder for a plaster.
Two screens and ergonomic seats
The dashboard is otherwise identical to that of the hatch. So two 10-inch screens that overlap and still have physical heating buttons. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are of course available. In addition, you can again opt for Opel’s AGR-certified front seats that would be very ergonomic.
The engines and the price
The Opel Astra Sports Tourer comes with the same sensible engines as the hatchback. The petrol and diesel versions produce between 110 and 130 hp and the plug-in hybrid goes up to 180 hp. The PHEV always comes with an automatic transmission; the automatic transmission is an option for the other motorisations. The prices of the hatchback start at 26,699 euros, so look for the price of the Sports Tourer slightly north of that.
