After the new Opel Astra sedan, recently unveiled, it will be the turn of the station wagon, Sports Tourer, to make its appearance in spring 2022. It will take up the recipe of the Peugeot 308 SW with a completely redesigned rear part. Then will follow a new crossover.

The new generation Astra is now official. However, the range of the German compact will not stop with this sedan, Opel plans, in fact, to decline it in station wagon.
Opel Astra Sports Tourer: everything on the rear
The specifications for this version will be similar to that produced for the model from the Peugeot 308, the technical cousin of the Opel. Thus, the entire front part will be identical to that of the sedan, up to the middle pillar. The body of the rear door will also be used. On the other hand, the roof line will lengthen more generously, the rear window will be modified and the amount of the window completely redesigned. In addition, the wheelbase will increase by 5.5 cm, and above all, the rear overhang will be greatly revised upwards to provide ample luggage space. The tailgate will have a more inclined bezel and will descend lower integrating, as is the case for the 308 SW, the license plate.
More space in the back
On board, the presentation of the very recent sedan will be preserved with the set of screens called Pure Panel. The two tiles, for meters and for infotainment, can reach a size of 10 inches. Few physical controls will be kept, except for a few shortcuts and for the air conditioning. The console between the two passengers will display the same sobriety, especially in its automatic transmission version with the small lever replacing the gear lever. The real difference compared to the sedan will be in the rear seats: passengers should have more leg comfort. Modularity should be close to that of the Peugeot, with a split bench seat back according to the 40/20/40 ratio. Will the Opel go further than the 308 with a folding front passenger seat? As for the trunk volume, by definition, it will be more substantial than on the sedan. It remains to be seen whether the new generation of the station wagon will be more spacious than the old one… This has not been true of the 308 SW which has slightly lost its capacity.

Engines: sedan and station wagon, same range
For the mechanical part, no surprises to be expected: the Astra Sports Tourer will take over all the engines available under the hood of the compact sedan. The gasoline offer will extend from 110 to 130 hp, while the diesel version will be satisfied with a block of 130 hp. The EAT8 automatic gearbox will be supplied as an option on the most powerful units. Everything will be completed by a plug-in hybrid range ranging from 180 to 225 hp. The volume of the trunk will be, in this configuration, encumbered by a few tens of liters.
This Astra Sports Tourer station wagon will be unveiled in November and then marketed in the spring of 2022, a few weeks after the sedan.
