According to a study by a team of British researchers, men gain more weight when they are married than when they are just in a relationship or single. Explanations.
Men gain weight when married
Many women have found that their husbands, once married, gain weight. This observation has just been highlighted by a British study published in the journal Social Science and Medicine. According to this work, men tend to gain more weight when they are married only when they are in a relationship or single. To reach this conclusion, the researchers followed more than 8,700 men.
In this panel, there were 90% of married men, among them 30% of men living with children under the age of 19, 24% of newlyweds, 39% of men who had just had a child. and 12% divorced. Looking at changes in the Body Mass Index (the ratio of weight to height squared) of participants, the researchers came to the following conclusion: married men have a significantly higher BMI than men who did not say “yes” in front of the Mayor.
Overweight dads?
Another event that causes men to gain weight: the arrival of children. Men do not gain weight during their wives’ pregnancy but during the three years after birth. Could the lack of sleep and reduced physical activity be responsible? The study does not say so. On the other hand, we learn that painful events, such as divorce, lead to weight loss in men.
Also according to this work, men with a child under 19 have a higher BMI than men without children or with adult children. In 2015, a study conducted by researchers at the University of Basel, Switzerland, showed that married men weighed 2 kilograms more than single men. We will now have to find explanations for this alarming finding, to say the least.
