Intimate surgery has developed to reconstruct a clitoris in circumcised women. It is indeed possible to “pull” on the naturally buried part of the clitoris to bring out a small “button”: thus the woman finds a “normal” female anatomy. What she often experiences as a real rebirth, even if the pleasure associated with this area does not really return. At the same time, surgeons have looked into the other disgraces of nature or of time. Today, women are therefore operated on for both aesthetic and functional reasons.
For what reasons do we want to have sex again?
Some women have large and full labia that it bothers them on a daily basis, especially for various activities such as cycling, horseback riding … After pregnancy or with age, others experience a gap in their body. the vulva, which decreases their sensations during intercourse. Still others want to find more toned lips because time has relaxed them. But sometimes, we make a mistake … That is to say, we imagine that his labia minora or labia majora are disproportionate, whereas they are normal. Not all women are made exactly the same. Consulting a surgeon who is used to these procedures allows you to be well advised.
What is the most requested intervention today?
The nymphoplasty, that is to say the surgery of the labia majora. Most often to reduce them because they are too bulky and they “hang”. Several techniques are available, the choice being made according to the characteristics of the woman. For a better aesthetic result, a gesture is sometimes added: we can inject a little fat taken from the woman herself (internal face of the knees or thighs) so as to obtain a good balance between the two parts of the vulva. It is also possible to use hyaluronic acid, but the effect then lasts less.
Do the requests vary depending on the type of woman?
Women of Caucasian descent generally want more discreet organs than in other cultures, especially in Africa where the protuberance of the sex can be a sign of fertility viewed positively. Women in these countries also have less problems with enlarged labia majora. But whatever their origin, women do the process for themselves. It is exceptional that it is the partner who “demands” an intervention of this part of the female body.
Is surgery the best solution to tone a sagging vagina?
Not at all. Always start with perineal physiotherapy. Laser or radiofrequency techniques can improve vaginal tone as well. Surgery is therefore only a last resort. We can then perform a vaginoplasty, that is to say a reconciliation of the relaxed tissues. It is a rather delicate intervention, not very practiced.
How is an intimate surgical procedure?
Two consultations 15 days apart are necessary, because a reflection period is mandatory. During the first, an estimate is given by the surgeon. The consultation of an anesthesiologist is compulsory, even in the case of local anesthesia, which is the most frequent case, the surgical acts generally taking place on an outpatient basis. Only post-excision operations benefit from health insurance coverage. For the others, everything is the responsibility of the woman. Depending on the interventions, establishments and surgeons, it is still necessary to plan a budget of between 3,500 and 5,500 euros.
What precautions should be taken before these operations?
As with any surgical intervention, stopping smoking is strongly recommended: indeed, smoking delays healing. We also avoid taking aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs the week before the operation. And if a painkiller is necessary, we of course choose paracetamol.
How is it going afterwards?
These interventions are not painful, it does not burn … because the intimate lips are little innervated. You may just feel a little discomfort when sitting down at first. At most, a woman may need one paracetamol tablet the first evening. Cotton panties with a little periodic protection for a few days are useful to absorb the oozes. Otherwise, we disinfect and apply a healing cream for a while. And for a month, no baths or sex. Their recovery will be done with a lubricating gel. Since sutures are made with absorbable suture, no need to remove sutures.
