A 26-year-old young man assaulted a nurse in Nantes. In 2015, 82 acts of aggression were reported to the Order of Nurses.
A new attack reveals a little more the violence of the daily life of the nurses. On May 24, a nurse was attacked in Nantes by a 26-year-old young man. He had presented to the CHU around 2:45 am to claim treatment for psychiatric problems. The nurse having explained to him that he could not receive medication before consulting a doctor, the young man then violently assaulted his interlocutor, striking him with a punch, before kicking him violently in the face. head as the 34-year-old nurse was on the ground.
Placed in police custody, the young man was referred to the Nantes tribunal de grande instance. The nurse, for her part, was granted five days off work, following her injuries.
Frequent beatings and injuries
This is not the first attempt of this visibly poorly treated patient, who was the subject of two research sheets, and who had already been placed in police custody this week for damage to a police station.
This is especially not an exception for nurses whose daily life is often marked by violent acts.
“In 2015, 82 reports were made to [l’Ordre], which is indisputably lower than the number of assaults suffered by nurses ”, explains the order of nurses on its website. In detail, these assaults are mainly insults (63 for the year 2015), even if the nurses also declare 23 assaults for “assault and battery”, and 13 “threats with weapons or blunt objects”.

Statistics which show that this profession is particularly prone to violence and that its working conditions are greatly affected.
The statistics tell us a second thing: the overwhelming majority of these attacks take place in the patient’s home, much more frequently than in a public health establishment or in a nurse’s office.
