At the Belgian border, around thirty employees of a food company fell ill at the same time. The cause of their pathology has not been discovered.
A mysterious infection detected at the Belgian border has infected around thirty people. All are employees of a Belgian company specializing in precooked and frozen potato products called Clarebout Potatoes. They were admitted to the Armentières Hospital Center for respiratory symptoms and fever, says the daily North Eclair. Eleven are still hospitalized.
For the moment, the doctors have not identified the pathology in question. The infectious disease team was particularly mobilized and advised emergency teams of additional examinations to be performed. The pathogen responsible for these 15 cases was to be known by Friday afternoon. But for now, the flu and other suspects have been ruled out.
Isolation measures
The vast majority of patients were able to go home with a prescription for antipyretics (for fever) and pain relievers. In addition, “isolation measures have been taken for patients who live with frail people, they were able to return home but with a breathing mask. As long as we do not know the reason for their condition, we take precautions, ”detailed Claude Decrock, director of duty at the Armentières hospital.
As a precaution, the Hauts-de-France Regional Health Agency (ARS) has been notified, as has its Belgian counterpart. Colleagues of the 15 patients were reportedly admitted to Jan Yperman hospital in Ypres (Belgium).
The Clarebout Potatoes company has two production sites in Belgium in the municipalities of Comines-Warneton and Neuve-Église. For now, we do not know where the sick work.
