For the second year in a row, Internet users have decided to take up the #NoNutNovember, a rather special challenge. For a month, they promised each other not to make love, nor to masturbate. The key, according to them? Better sexual health and increased pleasure. But is it really recommended?
While this month of November has for many years been devoted to raising public awareness of male pathologies thanks to the Movember movement, Internet users have decided to take on a rather special challenge…
Launched on the Reddit network and titled #NoNutNovember, this challenge has since been emulated on Twitter. The principle ? To refrain from ejaculating, and therefore to refrain from any sexual intercourse or any activity of masturbation throughout the month of November.
I declare open on #NoNutNovember good luck to you guys, this month we separate the men from the boys

As explained 20 minutes, no medical claim behind the challenge, except that of resting your organ to maximize your sexual pleasure. Indeed, according to Internet users, refraining from ejaculating would allow you to have more intense orgasms, but also to work your imagination by “raising the pleasure” during these few weeks of abstinence.
On the one hand, people complain of “living in a dictatorship” and that we want to take away their pleasures (tobacco, alcohol, junk food, etc.) and on the other, they start stupid games consisting in voluntarily frustrating themselves without any reason. Champions, as usual. #NoNutNovember https://t.co/jrtS915N85

A beneficial sexual fast
But what does the medical profession say? Is it really recommended, and above all beneficial, to indulge in such a sexual fast?
Asked by 20Minutes, Stéphane Droupy, urologist and head of the scientific council of the French Association of Urology, argues that it is absolutely safe. “There is no risk either in suddenly resuming sexual activity in December,” he explains.
Better, explains the specialist, this can have positive effects both physical – a more powerful ejaculation – and psychological. “Holding back your ejaculation is very stimulating, continues the doctor. You increase the desire while keeping your energy. It also allows you to cultivate the platonic side of sexuality. With your partner, you then play on tenderness, preparation and the fantasy side. The orgasm is way more powerful then.”
Regular abstinence
Dr. Drupy also advises repeating the experience regularly, and not just in November, to better control your desire and thus, ultimately, boost your sexuality. The only danger: that of prolonging the experience a little too long (one to two years) and thus encountering difficulties in having an erection when resuming sexual activity.
The urologist also specifies that these few weeks of abstinence can be difficult to honor for those who are not used to it. He therefore advises not to hesitate to take advice from a specialist, such as a sex therapist, in order to inquire about the techniques that exist to hold back your ejaculation. “These exercises allow, when you feel that you are going to ejaculate, to contract the muscles of the perineum. This will crush the prostate and block ejaculation.”
