October 22, 2008 – Does second-hand smoke bother you? You could try to convince the recalcitrant smoker in your entourage by participating in the new No Boucane dans ma cabane campaign, of the Smoke-Free Family program.
The participating families are committed to living in a smoke-free environment. This commitment also applies to friends and guests who come to the house. The program also encourages participants not to smoke in the car.
Second-hand smoke is as harmful to health as the smoke inhaled by the smoker, specifies the organization ACTI-MENU, one of the instigators of the Smoke-Free Family program. Children exposed to second-hand smoke are 50% more likely to suffer from infections or respiratory problems, says Roxanne Néron, medical consultant at ACTI-MENU.
