Ahead of his speech scheduled for Tuesday evening at 8 p.m., President Emmanuel Macron reveals the main lines of his speech in an interview with the Journal du Dimanche.
- The deconfinement will not take place on December 1, because “the level of circulation of the virus in the country is the same as at the time of the curfew” according to the Head of State.
- Nevertheless, given the importance of the Christmas period for traders already heavily hit by the two confinements, relaxations could take place.
While the French are still wondering if they will be able to celebrate Christmas, and especially under what conditions, President Emmanuel Macron made new announcements in an interview with the Sunday newspaper, ahead of his speech scheduled for Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. “Nothing is worse than uncertainty and the feeling of endless gloom. You need consistency, clarity, a course”declared the head of state in the columns of the JDD.
“There is no fatality. Crises can ultimately be accelerators of progress. We must be at the rendezvous of history. And France has all the assets to be so”, he added, specifying that his speech will also be an opportunity to unveil the first stages of vaccination strategy coming to our country.
According to the government spokesman, Gabriel Attal, also questioned by the JDD, France has already signed three contracts and “at least three others very advanced and others in discussion, with an average of 30 million doses per contract”.
276 deaths this Saturday in France
In his interview with the JDD, Emmanuel Macron explained the reasons for this status quo: “Today, the level of circulation of the virus in the country is the same as at the time of the curfew. It is not a question of deconfining.” Concretely, if we should not expect a lifting of containment from 1er December, the restrictive measures should however be gradually eased. This relaxation of the rules should, according to government spokesman Gabriel Attal, result in three major stages, first on 1er December, then before the end of year holidays and finally from January 2021.
Starting with the opening of shops, probably around the 1er December, as Prime Minister Jean Castex had previously suggested. If we are to believe the new statements of the spokesperson, the travel certificate should however remain in force. Bars and restaurants, considered as important places of contaminationwill also continue to face restrictions.
According to the latest figures from Public Health France, the number of new confirmed cases stood at 17,881 on Saturday, 5,000 less than the day before. A drop is also noted in the number of deaths: 276 this Saturday against 386 Friday.
