To ensure long-lasting medico-psychological support, the Minister of Health has announced the creation of 24 new positions in hospitals in the Alpes-Maritimes.
Almost 3 months after the Nice attack, the psychological wounds have not healed. So to help victims and traumatized people who are still fragile, Marisol Touraine, Minister of Health, announced the creation of 24 new positions in psychiatric hospitals in the Alpes-Maritimes.
Immediately after the truck attack on the Promenade des Anglais which left 86 dead, including 10 children and adolescents, and more than 400 injured, a medico-psychological emergency system was put in place. Some 3,500 people were able to benefit from it, and more than 1,000 of them are still being followed. A demand for psychiatric care beyond the capacities of hospital teams.
Guarantee sustainable monitoring
The Ministry of Health has therefore decided to allocate new resources to 4 establishments in the region: the Lenval pediatric hospital and the Antibes hospital center to provide support for children and adolescents, as well as the CHU Pasteur and the Sainte-Marie Hospital Center which takes care of adults. The 24 new professionals to join these services will be psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses specializing in psycho-trauma or even educators.
This new state commitment, funded to the tune of 1.4 million euros, should allow long-term support for victims. It is in addition to the reinforcement of 6 professionals announced last month for the Pasteur and Lenval hospitals which “will be extended until these recruitments are effective”, explains the ministry, which recalls that people traumatized, injured or witnesses of the attack can benefit from 10 sessions with a psychological reimbursed each at 50 euros.
