She added that “nearly 500 people have been accommodated in the five existing psychological cells (CUMP)” in the region. Finally, the tenant of Avenue Duquesne (Paris) announced that “all hospitalized people will be covered 100% by Health Insurance”.
Compensation from next week
For its part, the Secretary of State (to the Prime Minister) in charge of victim support, Juliette Méadel, announced on Saturday that the first compensation for the victims of the Nice attack will take place “from the end of next week”.
The Guarantee Fund for victims of acts of terrorism and other offenses (FGTI), in charge of compensation, “must pay initial provisions. I asked for it to happen at the end of next week, ”she said from Nice where she was.
Despite this announcement, several victims’ associations, interviewed by Agence France Presse (AFP), said they feared that the traumatized people in Nice, due to their large number (thousands) and the difficulty they will have in proving their presence at the scene of the attack, are deprived of any compensation.
Will the limits of the reserve soon be reached?
The minister wanted to reassure them: “We will ensure that the victims, whether shocked or indirect (relatives of victims, editor’s note), are compensated,” said Juliette Méadel after visiting the cell. aid center located at the Mediterranean University Center (CUM).
She also recalled that the FGTI, created in 1986, when France was experiencing a wave of acts of terrorism linked to the situation in the Middle East, has a reserve of 1.3 billion euros. But after the attacks of November 13 in Paris and Saint-Denis, experts fear however that it will reach its financial limits due to the large number of victims on the Promenade des Anglais.
