July 23, 2003 – Two American schools recently announced the establishment of post-graduate programs in acupuncture and oriental medicine.
As a first step, Bastyr University in Oregon created a program spread over eleven semesters and structured to accommodate acupuncturists who want to continue practicing while studying. In addition to having to complete a dissertation, students will have access to clinical internships in two renowned Chinese universities.
Bastyr University Acupuncture Program Leader Terry Courtney pointed out that no acupuncture doctorate program has yet been offered in the United States, although the popularity of the treatment continues to grow.
In addition, the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine will also offer a doctorate program in acupuncture. This intensive two-year program includes notions of Eastern and Western acupuncture practice, clinical research training and practical internship in China.
