A decrease in the number of injections in infants, reminders of fixed-age vaccinations in adults, and modalities easier to remember for patients, these are the new recommendations to increase the rate and coverage and perhaps also to save money.
A study by IMS Health estimates that with the adoption of the new calendar in 2013, France could save 65 million euros.
This estimate is calculated on the basis of the following three assumptions: that doctors quickly apply the new recommendations, that vaccine prices are stable as well as coverage rates.
The reduction in the number of injections for infants would make it possible to save 30.5 million euros thanks to the simplification of the vaccination schedule for all diphtheria, tetanus, poliomyelitis, pertussis, haemophilus influenzae B, hepatitis vaccines. B. EUR 33 million in savings could be made for the vaccination of adults by switching from a booster vaccination every 10 years without a fixed age to a vaccination at a fixed age every 20 years.
The vaccination of the population of children and adolescents aged 6 to 18 would have an almost stable cost with savings of 2.6 million euros.
