With the launch of HBO Max in the Netherlands, Netflix has gained another important new competitor.
It has been known for a while that HBO Max is coming to the Netherlands in March. It was still unclear until now what a subscription to the streaming service would cost. That has now become clear. And guess what, HBO Max is a lot cheaper than Netflix.
It is a tried and tested strategy to acquire customers. Launch your service at a much cheaper price than the competition and people will come. Amazon Prime uses this strategy and Disney+ also did that with the launch in the Netherlands. HBO Max uses a similar principle to the launch in the Netherlands and is therefore cheaper than Netflix, the main competitor. A subscription to HBO Max starts at 2.99 euros per month.
HBO Max for 2.99 euros per month gives you access to the library in good quality. Go for 720p. You are allowed to download up to five titles and you can watch on only one screen at a time. Above that is the subscription of 3.99 euros per month. You can watch on three screens simultaneously, download up to 30 titles and watch movies and series in high quality. That’s 1080p or 4k if available.
An interesting fact is that HBO Max will continue to use these prices if you do not cancel your subscription. The communicated prices are with a 50 percent discount. Not canceling therefore means a subscription for 2.99 or 3.99 euros per month, ‘forever’, according to the words of the streaming service. Without these discounts, the subscriptions cost 6 and 8 euros per month. HBO Max launches on March 8 in the Netherlands.
