Two premature babies died in the neonatal intensive care unit of the CHU de Nancy. Administrative and judicial inquiries are underway.
An investigation for manslaughter was opened following the death of two premature babies hospitalized at the Nancy CHRU (Meurthe-et-Moselle). In a press release, the establishment indicates that an internal investigation is also carried out as well as an administrative investigation conducted by the Regional Health Agency Grand Est.
According to information from TF1, these deaths which have occurred in recent days in the neonatal intensive care unit are linked to an error in the administration of drugs. The various investigations and the autopsy of the children, carried out on April 27, should make it possible to explain the circumstances of this tragedy.
A psychological unit set up
The parents of the newborns were welcomed and taken care of by the medical teams. A system of accompaniment and psychological support is also open to them, indicated the Nancy CHRU. “We join in the grief of the parents and extend our deepest condolences to them and their loved ones. Deeply shocked, we are primarily at the disposal of families to answer their legitimate questions, ”writes the hospital.
A psychological unit is also set up for the professionals of the neonatal intensive care unit who “are under the influence of a deep emotion”.
