Is BMW M planning an expansion of the line-up?
There will come a time when the last 4.4-litre V8 biturbo will roll off the production line and BMW’s M division will switch to electric motors. If we can take the liberty and fill it in for BMW, the disappearance of the V8 means two things: there will be another cannon from an M-model as the ultimate bouncer and the electric future offers new opportunities. Opportunities for models that were not viable with petrol engines and may now suddenly be viable, for example a BMW M7 or BMW M9.
It’s all incredibly speculative, but a BMW M7 and BMW M9 may be possible. The German car brand registered the brand names with a trademark office in the Philippines. Currently, a new 7 Series is on the way and it could mean BMW is finally making an M7 based on the new 7 Series. BMW has never made a real BMW M7 before. Perhaps also because an M7 would hit a pig like pliers. We did get the bloody fast BMW M760Li.
And the BMW M9?
We know that BMW’s M division is working on a 600 horsepower supercar. At least, those were the last signals in 2019. It sometimes happens that projects are terminated prematurely. The rumor of a BMW M9 ties into the supercar project. It could be a hybrid supercar as the previous reports confirmed, or a fully electric sports car. Of course it can also just be that BMW wants to have the model names M7 and M9 already reserved, so that no one can get away with it.
