Hearing is a precious asset that must be preserved, even during music festivals, concerts, nightclubs and upcoming festivals. Here’s how.
- 10 million people have hearing problems in our country, ie 16% of the French population.
- However, 1 out of 2 French people never have their hearing assessed.
So standing concerts and nightclubs will resume on June 30 and July 9, and that the music festival is being held tonight, Why Doctor explains to you, with the advice of hearing professionals, how to take good care of your ears.
1/ Equip yourself well with headphones and earphones
Headphones and earphones with active noise reduction technology (known as ANC) reduce outside noise and therefore do not increase the sound level to mask the nuisance.
2/ Diversify musical genres
Indeed, not all music is listened to in the same way. For example, urban and electronic music is generally listened to at higher levels to take advantage of the bass. Do not hesitate to alternate from time to time with classical music or jazz, for example.
3/ Use earplugs
During a concert, protection (earplugs) is absolutely recommended to avoid hearing trauma due to sound levels that are often far too high, well above 100 decibels. “And contrary to popular belief, music is perfectly enjoyed with plugs, which do not completely cut off the sound”, says Audika.
4/ Limit exposure to speakers
During a concert or in a discotheque, you should avoid staying exposed for a long time next to the speakers. “The sound power increases the sensations tenfold but can also cause serious damage to hearing”, explains Audika.
5/ Rest your ears after using them
When our hearing has been heavily solicited, a break is in order. After a concert, a festival or a nightclub outing, preference should be given to relaxing spaces. “It is possible to listen to soft music, but avoiding doing so while wearing headphones”, concludes Audika.
