scabies sows panic in a clinic in Montauban (Tarn-et-Garonne). Four cases of scabies have been reported among staff members of the Pont de Chaume establishment, reports The Noon Dispatch. These infections raise concerns, whereas last summer eight health professionals had already been contaminated by this parasite within this same clinic. The management of the establishment wants to reassure: the patient does not run from contamination risk since all measures to eradicate the parasite have been taken to put a stop to this fall recurrence.
No infected patient
Washing of sheets at high temperature, disinfection of rooms, disinsection of furniture… The system had already been put in place this summer after the first cases, in conjunction with the Regional Health Agency (ARS) and occupational medicine. But the actions seem to have been in vain to find the exact origin of this contamination. “In recent days, the observed recurrence of the phenomenon in four members of the staff initially concerned obliges us to renew the application of the same health measures. […] No contamination having been declared in our patients”, points out the director of the establishment, Didier Godec, questioned by La Dépêche du midi.
Scabies is a highly contagious disease caused by a parasite, a mite called sarcoptic. This disease is transmitted by direct contact with an infected person and also by contact with the patient’s personal items (bedding, sheets, clothes, etc.).
