Microsoft sells Minesweeper sweater for under the Christmas tree

For many, Christmas isn’t complete without putting on an ugly Christmas sweater, and Microsoft is also joining in that tradition. The jersey sold this year is dedicated to the classic Windows game Minesweeper. But many sizes are already sold out.

At the time of writing, the Minesweeper Ugly Sweater still available in sizes SM, XL and 2XL. The most common sizes M and L are no longer available, and neither is 3XL. However ugly you may find the sweater, it is a real collector’s item. In addition, a portion of the proceeds will go to the charity AbleGamers, which is committed to making video games accessible to people with disabilities.

Microsoft started this trend in 2018. Back then, a few sweaters were distributed among influencers and so was the year after. They only became available to a wider audience last year. Sweaters with a Windows 95, Windows XP and MS Paint theme could end up under everyone’s Christmas tree. The charity then involved Girls Who Code. This organization intends to get more women into the tech industry.

Game rules

This year the honor goes to Minesweeper to shine on the jersey. Not so surprising considering the puzzle game has been part of Windows since 1992. The aim is to tick all the correct boxes. If there is a mine under it, you start all over again. The exact rules of the game are not known to everyone. Clicking around at random and hoping for the best is therefore a common strategy.
