We know: physical activity is good for morale. A recent study has just confirmed that it has a positive impact on mood.
- It is recommended to practice 30 minutes of running, at moderate or high speed, at least five days a week.
- Physical inactivity is the cause of 5% of the burden of coronary heart disease, 7% of type 2 diabetes, 9% of breast cancer and 10% of colon cancer.
Sport is an ally of weight for health. Several studies show the benefits of a sports activity on the body of the human being. But it can also affect mood, according to a survey commissioned by the British association “We are Undefeatable”.
3,000 responses
To arrive at this observation, a survey was conducted among 3,000 Britons. Among this panel, 1,000 people suffered from long-term illnesses. Participants had to engage in physical activity. According to the results, 67% of the volunteers said that the sport improved their mood. A third of adults surveyed felt their mood was lower if they weren’t moving or exercising as much as usual. According to the work, mental well-being was the most important factor for 18% of participants when choosing to participate in a sporting activity.
What sports should you bet on?
According to Dr. Zoe Williams, several sports can be assets in everyday life. Walking can be beneficial in case of lack of motivation. A walk allows you to get back in the direction of travel. This practice helps the heart to beat quickly and give it fresh oxygenated blood for better concentration.
Swimming helps lower stress levels and releases cortisol, which can reduce feelings of stress. Finally, dancing releases endorphin, serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine, which increases the feeling of happiness.
“A boost through physical activity”
Michelle Roberts, who conducted the survey, is pleased with these results. “It’s so great to see from research that everyone, including those living with a disease or health condition, can get an uplifting boost through physical activity. We want to encourage everyone to find the moves that match his mood and provide inspiration for those who don’t know how to start“, she said.
