This Thursday, March 8, 2018, a draft decree and two decrees detailing the new skills of “advanced practice nurses” (IPA) were presented to the Ministry of Health for consultation. This text could enter into force from September 2018. The objective: to fight against medical deserts.
Very concretely, if this text is adopted, nurses will be able (always under the supervision of a doctor) to participate “in the overall care of the patient” in four areas: “stabilized chronic pathologies, in particular for in charge of the elderly ”(stroke, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, etc.),“ oncology ”,“ kidney transplantation ”,“ mental health and psychiatry ”. On the other hand, the “diagnostic management” and the “therapeutic choices” of the treatment path will remain “defined by the doctor”.
In addition, nurses will be able to “conduct an interview with the patient”, trace his medical history and “carry out a clinical examination” but also “renew or adapt medical prescriptions”, “prescribe and interpret” biology examinations. , or even practice a list of technical acts “without medical prescription”.
New skills to fight against medical deserts
A draft decree that does not satisfy the nursing profession: thus, Philippe Tisserand, the president of the FNI (union of liberal nurses) notably deplored practices “totally supervised” by a doctor and a “disappointing” text from our colleagues from AFP.
On the other side of the chessboard, the president of the CSMF (Confederation of French Medical Syndicates), Jean-Paul Ortiz, judged “fundamental that the doctor remains the conductor” and asked for a revision of the text to avoid “hard conflict”. To be continued…
