Mazda is more than 100 years old and has several million vehicles sold on the meter. One of the specificities of the brand? The 323 in pole position
No. 1 – Mazda Familia (Mazda 323)
At the top of the sales chart is the Mazda 323 (also called Mazda Familia in some markets) who won the gold medal. With over 10 million units assembled, it is far ahead of second in the standings. The first generation of this sedan, whose look is inspired by the AMC Pacer, was presented in 1977. It succeeds the Familia, which was declined in three generations between 1963 and 1976, but which will never be imported into France. Six generations of 323 will be produced until 2003. A rational vehicle, its power does not exceed 130 hp. But if you feel like it, you can always go to Japan to find a slightly more powerful version developing 165 hp.
In 2004, the 323 was replaced by the Mazda3 (Axela in Japan). The name changes but the spirit remains the same. Sold in more than 6.5 million copies worldwide, it is the second most produced model by Mazda. The podium is completed by the Mazda 626, ancestor of the Mazda 6, which sold 4.3 million copies between 1978 and 2005.
The Mazda 2 ranks 5th
As for city cars, the Mazda 2 and its ancestor the Demio, only arrive in 5th position with 3.5 million copies produced. For its fourth generation, the Japanese city car – whose arrival is scheduled for 2022 – is content to hide under the guise of the Yaris, from which it borrows absolutely everything … except the Toyota logo! Note at 6and position, the presence of the CX-50. The SUV of just 10 years has already exceeded the milestone of 3 million units manufactured.
