Mazda MX-5 (2022). New for the roadster and rising prices

The Mazda MX-5 gains new equipment and sees its prices increase by € 550 for 2022.

Mazda is equipping the MX-5 with a Brake Stabilization System (KPC) and adding colors to its roadster’s option catalog. This one sees its prices climb by 550 € to start at 29,650 € now.

Mazda makes some modifications to the MX-5 for the 2022 vintage of the iconic roadster. In terms of technical data and equipment, the main change is called Kinematic Posture Control or KPC. When it detects the start of slipping at the rear on a curve (by comparing the rotational speeds of the two wheels of the axle), the system slightly brakes the rear inner wheel in order to improve the stability of the vehicle. Devices of this type are already offered by many manufacturers. The KPC is supplied as standard from the basic configuration. As a top-of-the-range Sélection finish with a 2.0-liter engine, the MX-5 still benefits from a mechanical limited-slip differential.

The MX-5 takes color

Mazda is gradually spreading the metallic off-white Platinum Quartz body color, and it’s the MX-5’s turn to take advantage of it. New options are now available for the Selection finish, namely a white or terracotta nappa leather invoiced at 400 € for the upholstery, as well as a dark blue soft top for the ST soft top model. This one asks for 400 €, like the red canvas. The Sport package for the 2.0 l model, which includes a firmer Bilstein suspension, a strut bar and Recaro leather / Alcantara bucket seats, is still displayed at € 1,800. Only tubs are available for the 1.5 l engine, at a cost of € 1,500.

Rising price for the Mazda roadster

Prices excluding MX-5 options increase by € 550. The convertible now starts at € 29,650, and the evolution of its ecological penalty, which will go from 240 to 360 € at 1^er January 2022, makes it exceed the threshold of € 30,000 by 10 small euros in the basic version, CO tax₂ included. For the most muscular variant of 184 hp, count € 1,504 minimum penalty according to the 2022 scale. The RF variation, equipped with an electrically retractable Targa-style hardtop, still requires € 2,500 more than the ST. The updated Mazda MX-5 will be available at the beginning of next January.
