A sneak peek of the upcoming Maserati SUV
After the Levante, Maserati has a taste for it and they come up with a (slightly) more compact SUV. Today the brand sends us a load of camouflage photos and the first info. The name was already known: Maserati Grecale.
According to Maserati, the Grecale is the incarnate image of ‘the everyday exceptional’. Which means as much as: do your shopping and school taxi rides with it, but you will always feel how special it is. With a length of 4,846 millimeters and a wheelbase of 2,901 millimeters, we are talking about a serious lump of car. But looking at the pictures (admittedly, camouflage takes off) he looks a lot more athletic than those numbers suggest. Maserati has already performed the same design trick with the Levante. You wouldn’t say that it is longer than five meters.
The Maserati Grecale is (for now) mild-hybrid
The brand speaks in the press release about several versions, but at the moment only releases information about a mild-hybrid Maserati Grecale. This gets a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo with a starter/generator with belt, which charges a battery under the trunk via a 48-volt system. A so-called e-Booster then provides extra punch and economy.
We know this system from the Ghibli and Levante. In the Grecale it is good for 300 hp and 450 Nm, which helps it from 0 to 100 in 5.6 seconds and through to a top of 240 km/h. Among the four riding modes, there’s also one called Off-Road, where ground clearance increases by up to 30 millimeters if you have the air suspension checked. Maserati promises an engine sound worthy of the trident.
Maserati Intelligent Assistant
Much attention was paid to the digital interaction, even the sounds of the flashing lights. The interior, of which no photos have been released yet, seems to be quite minimalist. There is even – audible breath – a multifunctional digital clock. There are two screens of 12.3 and 8.8 inches, the largest of which has 15 million pixels. Optionally, you can add a head-up display. Maserati’s new MIA (Maserati Intelligent Assistant) system runs on Android Auto, is complete connected and promises ‘a simple, intuitive and customizable user experience’.
More info about the Maserati Grecale will follow as soon as we have it. For now, use your imagination to see through the rather psychedelic camouflage in the photos above…
