I am a man of 70 years. Fifteen years ago, starting hemorrhoids were removed with the ring method. I fear that my sphincter is damaged as a result. For a long time I have suffered from flatulence because the sphincter cannot keep the case inside. Can the sphincter be revitalized with physiotherapy?

The blood vessels on which hemorrhoids form are important for the proper closure of the anus. Under pressure in the abdomen, the blood vessels swell. As a result, they lie against each other and there is more pressure on the closing mechanism. However, I do not think that the ring method, in which a rubber band around a hemorrhoid is applied which then dies, has damaged something. That is not technically possible, and it would have caused immediate problems. I think it is useful to have a specialized pelvic floor physiotherapist look at what exactly is going on and how you can get rid of the complaints.
