From November 11 to 14, at the Porte de Versailles, it is the MIFEXPO in other words the Salon du Made in France. As last July during the “Made in France” exhibition, no car manufacturer is represented. Yet this industry remains one of the pillars of our economy.
The Made in France Fair opens its doors in Paris. From November 11 to 14, many sectors of activity (fashion, gastronomy, high-tech, etc.) are exhibiting their know-how to the general public. One industry is still missing: the automobile. As last July, during the big exhibition of “Made in France”, no manufacturer or supplier is represented. However around 2,200,000 people are employed by this sector (2018 figures), i.e. 8% of the working population employed in France, and our territory has no less than 30 factories!
Mechanics and batteries made in France
Seven sites are entirely devoted to the construction of engines in France. They are based in Bourbon-Lancy (Fiat Powertain Technology), Carros (MDI), Cléon (Renault group), Douvrin (Stellantis), Onnaing (Toyota), Trémery (Stellantis) and Vénissieux (Renault / Volvo Trucks). The Douai plant (Renault group) will manufacture batteries from 2024 since the purchase of part of the land by Envision AESC. An activity in which the ACC joint venture has also positioned itself, recently launched by Stellantis and Total, which will produce on the Douvrin site. It will nevertheless be necessary to wait until the end of 2023 for the first batteries to drive models: R5, e-3008 …

Which cars are made in France?
The time when French cars were made in France is long gone. Yes France remains in third place among the largest automobile producers in Europe, it is thanks to utilities.

Label Origine France Garantie: a plus?
According to an IFOP survey published in 2018, more than half of French people look at the country of manufacture of a product before buying it. In order to promote products manufactured in our territory, the Pro France association, founded by former senator Yves Jégo, launched the “Origine France Garantie” label in 2011. To obtain this certification, companies must meet the following specifications:
- At least 50% of the unit cost price is acquired in France;
- the main production site is located in France.
On the general manufacturer market, only Peugeot, Citroën, DS and Toyota (since 2012) have taken the steps to obtain this label. A marketing certification after which Renault does not run. There is no trace of his models on the official site.
