Suffering from lymphoma, columnist Agathe Auproux regularly gives her news to her fans. During a question and answer session on Instagram, she was rather reassuring.
“Obviously there are days that are more difficult than others.” After publicly announcing her cancer, Agathe Auproux received many testimonials of support from Internet users. Touched by these proofs of affection, the columnist of Drop your post! on C8 very frequently reassures his fans on social networks about his state of health. On Friday March 29, she even organized a question and answer session on Instagram with her subscribers in order to keep them informed that she “continues the treatment and it is going well”.
“Need to stop lying”
Monday March 11, out of necessity “to stop pretending”, Agathe Auproux, 27, announced that she had lymphoma on Instagram. “Well, I have to tell you something. I have cancer. Lymphoma exactly. I’ve been on chemotherapy since mid-December and for another three months. I’m often in the hospital, I’m very tired, I lose my hair, I have a catheter that I hate placed under my skin”, had declared the young woman to her 600,000 subscribers. “I just needed to stop lying (…) I do a job with image and I thought it would be easier to keep it all to myself. It had finally become completely schizophrenic and oppressive. It’s more healthy to assume it”, she explained to justify her approach.
Since the publication of this shock post, the young woman has received many messages of support, whether from anonymous Internet users or from her boss Cyril Hanouna live from his show. “All your messages. It’s crazy. To those who thank me for breaking a taboo, for having spoken publicly: your testimonies by the thousands, on your fights, often much harder than mine, command respect and admiration . I am so touched by your words, by your resilience, by the truth of what we share today.”, notably reacted Agathe Auproux on Instagram. And to add, on a note of optimism. “I tell you again, I’m fine. Cancer, him, not really lol. I’m thinking of you all. And we’re going to keep laughing here. Of course. It’s essential. I didn’t expect so many reactions. Nor to so much love. Thank you. Infinitely”.
“It’s better, I’m continuing the treatment and it’s fine”
This message having failed to calm the concern of her fans, Agathe Auproux decided to organize a question and answer session on Instagram on Friday March 29. “I’m fine. But when I remove the filters, you can see that I’m still tired. I have moments of extreme fatigue all day. I turned off my phone and went to bed. I had a little fever. But now it’s better, I’m continuing the treatment and it’s going well”, she explained to a user before specifying that she had “a few chemo sessions left by the end of May “.
Agathe Auproux is not the first star to use her notoriety to highlight an unknown disease. A few weeks ago, singer Lorie Pester has announced that she suffers from endometriosis. In several testimonies, the young woman described her pain and told of her commitment to legalize egg freezing in France. Two years ago, American actress Shannen Doherty had documented her breast cancer on social media in order to take control of the disease as much as possible while, a little earlier Angelina Jolie had publicly expressed herself on this disease on many occasions to encourage women to get tested.
Cancer of the lymphatic system
Cancer of the lymphatic system, which Audrey Auproux suffers from, affects 11,000 French people a year and is responsible for 5,000 deaths in the same period of time. If the columnist is still very young, this disease is more common in people aged 60 or over. Among the known risk factors for lymphoma, the Canadian Cancer Society lists: “weakened immune system, autoimmune disorders, certain infections”, or “exposure to lindane (a drug used to treat lice and human sarcoptic mange) “. Family history of lymphoma, obesity or pronounced exposure to pesticides, trichloroethylene or chemical products are also to be taken into account.
