According to a study published in the journal Progress in Cardiovascular Disease, running would be the most effective sport activity to prevent premature death.
Decrease the risk of premature death
Summer is fast approaching, so getting active is a good idea. We will therefore recommend running since, according to a team of researchers from Iowa State University in the United States, practicing this sporting activity significantly lengthens life expectancy. These studies indeed reveal that one can gain three years of life by running only six months in all.
According to the authors of this study, running reduces the risk of premature death by 40%. These results would be confirmed even in the case of a smoker, a heavy drinker or a person who would suffer from health problems such as hypertension or obesity. The ideal would be to run at least 2 hours per week, throughout his life.
Extend your life expectancy by running
Specifically, the researchers were able to determine that one hour of running, regardless of speed and distance, saves seven hours of life. The results of this study confirm and complement those of previous work carried out by the Cooper Institute in 2014, which revealed that 5 minutes of running per day helped to extend life expectancy.
But how to explain these conclusions? While the researchers do not specifically detail why running is the sport most able to combat the effects of time, they argue that running is effective in the fight against hypertension and overweight (two important factors of premature death). When you know that spending an hour in front of the TV reduces life expectancy by 20 minutes, you understand the value of getting into sport quickly!
