The investigations did not surprise the company Merck since this search comes as the logical consequence of the opening of a preliminary investigation for “aggravated deception, involuntary attacks on physical integrity and endangering the life of others” . The laboratory, cited by Le Progrès, said it was ready to collaborate with investigators in this case, the search of which constitutes a new development. The Merck company “wishes to collaborate fully to support the work of the investigators of the Central Office for the fight against attacks on the environment and public health (OCLAESP) and to provide them with all the information useful for their work”, he said. – she reacted to Progress on a daily basis.
A health scandal in sight?
This search comes as the old formula of Levothyrox, medication which treats the thyroid, made his back to pharmacysince October 2. This version is intended only for “patients who really have not been able to get used to the new version, and who are experiencing disabling side effects,” according to the Ministry of Health.
The new formulation of the drug released in March is accused by many patients of trigger unwanted effects (cramps, headaches, dizziness …). 9000 patients thyroid patients have expressed their concern to the ministry and about sixty complaints have been officially filed.
The preliminary investigation, open since September 15, was entrusted to the public health center of the Marseille tribunal de grande instance. If no responsibility has yet been determined, the prosecutor’s office in Marseille has already received 163 complaints, says Le Progrès. All these elements give rise to fear of the outbreak of a new health scandal.
