In an open letter published on the website of the Association of Thyroid Patients, actress Anny Duperey challenges the Minister of Health Agnès Buzyn, asking her to abandon the new formula of Levothyrox, the medicine prescribed for thyroid problems.
Like many other patients, the actress has been followed for 12 years to hypothyroidism, a thyroid disorder compensated without any problem by taking Levothyrox. Warned by her pharmacist of the change of excipients in this medication, the actress admits that she was not at all worried and continued to take it with confidence.
Burst of side effects
“Very worrying discomforts then appeared in bursts” she writes: headaches, dizziness, cramps on waking, return of joint pain in the hips, exhaustion or even “muscular weakness such that I had to give up physical exercise, however gentle, which was beneficial to me” she explains. “It was only when I read the petition posted online recently that I understood what was going on…”
In her letter, the actress therefore demands the return to the old formula of Levothyroxknowing that the French remain the only “guinea pigs” for the new formula since the other European countries have refused it and the Netherlands have abandoned it after having tested it. “Are we going to encourage a kind of “old-fashioned black market” at our borders, like for tobacco? asks the actress.
And not without humour, Anny Duperey challenges public health officials in advance who will not fail to attribute her outburst to the weak thyroid : “If one of them dared to retort me that, I would make him swallow the wafer and the cardboard with it!”
